Flight Hack #4: Set Flight Alerts

On Google Flights (as well as on many other search engines and flight finder websites) you can set flight alerts for your desired route. Let’s say you want to fly to Singapore from London for a conference next year, meaning your dates are already set but your departure is still some time away. You see that return prices for that week are around £900 return, which is higher than usual for this route. Google Flights will even display you a 3-block scale when you search for prices, where green means prices are lower than usual, yellow means you are looking at a standard price, and red signals that prices are higher than usual.

On that page you can see a button which says ‘Track Prices’ (usually displayed between the first few flights that the software deems as the best options and the other departing flights list). There, you can select to track prices for either your entered date range or for any date. If you set that flight alert, Google Flights will send you email notifications when prices for your desired route and dates drop, so you don’t have to keep checking back.
